About the Program
The Odessa Concrete Plant owned by CRH Materials is located in a suburban mixed-use area north of Tampa, Florida. The plant produces concrete materials on a site of approximately 23 acres — of which two acres are open grassland.

Practices and Impacts
  • CRH Materials established an educational wildlife pollinator garden near the southwestern corner of the property in 2014 and conducts routine monitoring and maintenance in partnership with landscaping contractors.
  • Working with the Florida Native Plant Society, the team identified approximately 70 species of flowering native species for planting. The project team continues to support and promote the Society.
  • The garden and pond areas support a variety of wildlife including pollinating insects, songbirds, waterfowl, turtles, alligators and otters. The garden is also registered with Monarch Watch as a monarch waystation.
  • The grassland project consists of a native plant meadow. The goal of this area is to provide pollinators with habitat, and monitoring is conducted quarterly for vegetation and wildlife.
