About the Program
The General Motors Company's Toluca Complex in Mexico is home to more than 20 acres of restored native forest in the Parque Sierra Morelos. As part of a mitigation project, the team engaged employees and partners to greatly exceed the reforestation requirements as dictated through the Aluminum Foundry Plant's environmental impact assessment. The project aimed to protect and conserve native forest habitat and wildlife through reforestation.

Practices and Impacts
  • The team planted 19,310 trees, all native species, with a successful 95% survivorship rate. The team closely monitors and maintains the trees, on previously unvegetated land, through hydration projects and weeding, among other activities. The habitat has also become a site for World Environment Day events and an attraction for city dwellers looking to view wildlife in the area
