About the Program
The FCA Etobicoke Casting Plant is located in Toronto, Ontario, and produces aluminum die castings for automobiles. The plant was built in 1942 and is owned and operated by the automaker company Stellantis. There is a 10-acre hardwood forest on the facility grounds that is managed for conservation and habitat improvement. The forest acts as a green oasis in a landscape of dense urban development. Conservation of the urban forest is a key objective for the plant so it can continue to provide habitat for a diverse population of urban wildlife.

Practices and Impacts
  • Forest composition of trees and plants is surveyed annually to better understand the habitat
  • Deadwood is left on site to decompose naturally and provided ecological benefits
  • Tree planting increases tree diversity and supports healthy forest regeneration
