About the Program

Outer Loop RDF Wildlife Habitat is a pollinator garden located at the Outer Loop Recycling and Disposal Facility, operated by WM. The facility is located in Louisville, Kentucky, between the Louisville International Airport immediately to the north and the Jefferson County Memorial Forest a few miles south.  Located in this transition zone between forest and urban development, the pollinator garden provides a small slice of habitat for native wildflowers, birds, butterflies, bees and other pollinators.

Practices and Impacts
  • Employees and collaborators hand-seeded a 2,500-square-foot pollinator garden that features 30 native plant species.
  • The habitat is monitored frequently, and invasive plants are actively removed.
  • Butterfly use of the habitat is documented in notes and photographs.
